All sumo wrestlers are classified in a ranking hierarchy (banzuke) which
gets updated after each tournament based on the wrestlers performance.
Wrestlers with positive records that more winning than losses will move up the
hierarchy while those with negative records gets demoted. Related with my third
entry, You already know that the top division is Makuuchi and second division
is juryo and the pinnacle of the sumo hierarchy is yokozuna the grand champion.
Unlike wrestlers in lower ranks, a yokozuna cannot be demoted but the wrestler
will be expected to retire from the sumo world when his performance getting
worse. This is the rule of this sport and the wrestlers need to maintain their
title and increase their level of divisions to reach the first ranking in
hierarchy to become a professional sumo wrestler and the grand champion of the
sport. The amazing physical power and the unique dedication of the wrestlers
make the sport very interesting and exciting to watch.
